How it started…

It all started in the swinging ‘60s with one man’s fascination with typewriters. Derek, was employed by Dinwiddies of Dumfries as a typewriter mechanic by day and performing as a rock and roll star by night. In the mid ‘70s when Dinwiddies were bought over, Derek took the opportunity to purchase shares in an existing office stationery supplier. In to the late ‘80s a fresh faced young Keith joined the service team. Straight out of school and still here 30 odd years later. The early ‘90s brought about some major changes for Derek and his team. Combining Derek’s knowledge of office equipment and stationery, Derek started his own company Merlin Office Equipment on Galloway Street, Dumfries. 2001 came around quick and a BIG move across the road was made to a larger shop premises where we still trade today. Fast forward to 2012 Merlin Office Equipment became Merlin Office Ltd steered by Derek and wife Helen. Now Derek has Semi-Retired, Helen and daughter Nichola have taken the reins. We are a small team of 6; Director’s Derek, Helen and Nichola, Service Technicians Keith and Stewart and our delivery driver Caroline.
